It's what dreams are made of and nightmares kindled: Most home owners aspire to it; some take a few tentative steps and fewer still are crazy enough to go the full hog! This blog shares some of the trials and tribulations of a major redevelopment of a 1950s home through a cataclysmic transformation which retains the best of the last Century while metamorposing the property into a design classic fit for today's living.

Drained

Now, over the years, we haven't had much luck with drains and sewers. In our last property, the mains sewer was faulty, but not faulty enough to warrant replacement... We had to live with it for years, until we made enough fuss for the local authority to take action to fix the problem. However, they fixed only a small part - our part - and the neighbours, to this day, still have problems with their drains.

Our new drains are of the shiny, draining, variety. That was until the contractors removed one of the temporary pipes for the new drains. Over the last few days, we've had a steady trickle of not-so-clean water seeping out from the drain. Nobody knows what's causing it. Could be something as simple as some building rubble, earth or other debris blocking the pipe. If not, it's something more serious, which may require digging. Either way, the contractor has been briefed to investigate and not cover the drains until we've fixed and continue to monitor the situation over the next few days and weeks.
