It's what dreams are made of and nightmares kindled: Most home owners aspire to it; some take a few tentative steps and fewer still are crazy enough to go the full hog! This blog shares some of the trials and tribulations of a major redevelopment of a 1950s home through a cataclysmic transformation which retains the best of the last Century while metamorposing the property into a design classic fit for today's living.

More kit

If the density of plant and machinery is anything to go by, we're doing pretty well. After taking delivery of a mini digger and a swivel tip dumper, as well as the concrete mixer from yesterday, the site now resembles a busy plant-hire forecourt. The large JCB is on the way out, as it is easier to excavate the foundations using a smaller 360° digger.

There has also been some further work on the drains, with a large concrete ring (complete with bright yellow steps!) having been lowered into position. There's another one to go at the opposite end, which will ensure easy access to sort any future blockages. Underpinning work continues, with corner cavity having been filled with concrete.

And in an attempt to make up for some of the time lost before the break, the team is scheduled to dig foundations on Saturday. Now, that's commitment for you! Or does it have anything to do with double-time at Easter...?
