It's what dreams are made of and nightmares kindled: Most home owners aspire to it; some take a few tentative steps and fewer still are crazy enough to go the full hog! This blog shares some of the trials and tribulations of a major redevelopment of a 1950s home through a cataclysmic transformation which retains the best of the last Century while metamorposing the property into a design classic fit for today's living.

WEEK 7 - Kitchen fitters move in

But not yet... Today is a public holiday, so we'll have to wait until tomorrow before the mountain of boxes and appliances are moved out of the hall. In the meantime, the old lounge/new kitchen has been cleaned after the building, wallpaper stripping and plastering work, ready for the new kit. The decorator unearthed three layers of wallpaper, so the job took twice as long. Good thing we have a fixed contract price...

We've spent the weekend trawling shops and the net for all permutations of ceiling, floor and wall lights and have become real experts in the "luminaire" trade! It's an absolute nightmare, as we need 98 new lights, 32 sockets, and 38 new switches. Not an easy task, especially as we have a pretty good idea of what's required. As always, it's the budget which has the final say.
